“Let Go” - new single by Bay Bryan
RELEASE DATE: September 24th, 2021
“‘Let Go’, the follow-up to Bay Bryan’s debut is light and easygoing. I love the smooth shuffle feel and the jazzy instrumental was perfect for Bryan’s effervescent voice. I loved how uplifting everything was without sacrificing the poetic nature of the lyrics. Easily pushed along by the versatile percussion, there was always something to hold your attention. Sometimes, light and quiet pops – while at others a huge splashy drum kit. No matter what was happening behind the melody it felt perfect for the atmosphere and supported the vocals incredibly well. Melding so many different unique voices was simply beautiful. Another phenomenal release by Bay Bryan.” - Tyler Roberts (Indie Top 39)

Bay Bryan’s second single “Let Go” lands just as the seasons are changing, holding both a nostalgic warmth for the perfect summer daze whilst also processing and welcoming the coming of autumn and the “blue” winter that is soon to follow. As it playfully drives forward, with an ongoing undercurrent of bossa nova-esque claps and a gorgeously played flute part (Sarah Bennett), this alternative folk-jazz track presents both a message and an air of surrender. We stay almost primarily in a sonic space that reminds us of artists like Nick Drake and Donovan before making a sharp turn at the end into what feels more like Moses Sumney or Mumford and Sons territory.
“something about this song makes me think about being on a road trip to the beach with good friends, in a VW bus —my hand out the window riding the rushing air like I used to when I was a kid… It also makes me think about long solo walks, immersed in existential contemplation —feeling nostalgic, warm and resolved.
“the lyrics come from an inner voice —that one that knows best —that gives reassurance to follow your heart (as cliché as that sounds). It’s the voice that validates your feelings and encourages you to let go of your comforts and accept your role in the next chapter ahead… In the context of the song and the album as a whole, this inner voice also gives us a fair warning —there are ‘more than just ‘Sticky Shadows’ out there in the woods…’ I’m very excited to share Let Go and ‘The Meadow’ with people —especially those who are going through some sort of transition in their lives —I hope that it really resonates with them and that it truly has a positive impact on their lives.” ~ Bay
Let Go is the second single from Bay’s upcoming concept album ‘The Meadow’ (releasing 2022). It was self-produced and recorded at Airtight Studios in Chorlton, Manchester with engineer Seadna McPhail and mixed/mastered by Zach Kornhauser. Musicians on the track include: Bay Bryan (acoustic guitar/piano), Sarah Bennett (flute; plays with the Hallé Orchestra), Pete Mitchell (percussion), Sam Vicary (bass) and Claire-Marie Seddon (trumpet)
Lyrics
Let go of this lush dream
So mild and inviting
I know we'll do the right thing
When we give it up
This spell we keep conjuring
And sadistically harbouring
It's charm is now floundering
Time to give it up
All the leaves are turning
Oncoming autumn is calling
For this fickle heart
To give the summer up
Take in these surroundings
Peaceful yet confounding
With no real sense of belonging
Time to give it up
Be brave and be bold love
When you go beyond the meadow
For there's more than just sticky shadows
Out there in the wood
All the leaves are turning
Oncoming autumn is calling
For this fickle heart
To give the summer up
Old winter will be looming
There where the blue will be blooming
And this fickle heart
Will try to find another start
All the leaves are turning
Oncoming autumn is calling
For this fickle heart
To give the summer up
Old winter will be looming
There where the blue will be blooming
And this fickle heart
Will try to find another start
Oh this fickle heart
Will try to find another start
Oh this fickle heart
Will try to find another start
A bit about THE MEADOW
The Meadow, set to be released at the end of September (2021), is Bay’s debut studio album. It consists of 11 tracks (7 songs and 4 interludes) and conceptually takes place in a self-created fantasy space designed to keep one safe, idle and in a day-dream of sorts. However, underneath the “golden” rays of comfort lies a feeling of discord —a truth: that we no longer belong in this meadow anymore. The songs & interludes, both directly and indirectly, explore an ongoing push-and-pull —to stay or to leave. By the end of the album we finally take those much needed steps “Beyond The Meadow,” marking an end to a chapter and the beginning of a new adventure, one that is “blue…”
“In ‘The Meadow’ album, I’m inviting you into my day-dream —a comfortably enclosed safe space, soaked by the golden sun of a perfect summer day that will never end. It’s the honest joy that I find in my ongoing reverie. It’s my melancholy and feelings of isolation. It’s my acknowledgment that I no longer belong here and the inner-turmoil that that brings. And it’s my biggest hurdle to overcome —am I even capable of leaving?” - Bay

The album, self-produced and arranged by Bay (with further arrangement by Fraser Langton) features an incredible list of top-shelf musicians based in the north of England; It sounds quite filmic at times with the acoustic guitar, piano, clarinet, flute, viola, upright bass, trumpet, percussion, synth and field recordings all working together to create a vivid tapestry of rich sound.
