Production Diaries - #GingerPrivilege
About the Production
*commence 3rd-person description*
#GingerPrivilege is Bay Bryan’s second solo theatre show. In similar fashion to his first show Growing Into My Beard , Bay weaves together different performative elements to tell a story or, in this case, explore a specific topic.
In #GingerPrivilege, Bay (through his many characters) seeks to understand his own personal privilege as well as the concept of privilege as a whole (with all the nuance that comes along with this sensitive subject). Through combined elements of red-nose clown, sock puppets, spoken-word, acoustic music and more our shape-shifting ginger attempts the impossible: to once-and-for-all SOLVE EVERYTHING.
PAST PRODUCTIONS

Dec 23rd 2019 at Buntport Theatre (Denver, CO USA): A festive evening where, previous to a performance of #GingerPrivilege, we enjoyed the presence four amazingly talented support artists: Kersti Bryan (actor), Suzi Q. Smith (poet), Shanna in A Dress (singer-songwriter) and Fraser Langton (clarinettist). Below photos captured by Casey Nimmer.
Nov 7th 2019 at Takk (Manchester): We had a lovely show in sunny Manchester at a hip coffee shop (turned theatre space for the evening). Our warm and cozy audience enjoyed “the variety show” that ensued and one of them even got up to dance a little bit (not a requirement by the way!) Did you catch the promo video? :D
August 19-23rd 2019 - the “walking version” at Edinburgh Fringe Festival: This truly fringe-y production of #GingerPrivilege enjoyed 9 shows over-the-course of five days taking place on-and-around Arthur’s Seat as part of Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019! Our core audience followed the show from beginning-to-end as we ascended the hill while passers-by would catch snippets of the show and sometimes join in through ‘til the end!
July 19th 2019 at Bradford Fringe Festival: With a slot at Bradford Fringe Festival 2019, Claire Seddon (director) and myself were able to get the show on it’s feet for the second time —a second draft of the script infused with more silliness (very happy about this). Our intimate audience was very receptive of both the show and the subject matter giving us great feedback immediately after the show.
Why? Where to for?
THE ULTIMATE GOAL of the show is to open up a dialogue about privilege not only for the audience members but also to further my own education as well; this ongoing dialogue before/after each show has spurred continued development and new content. It feels like we are heading the right direction!
WHAT’S NEXT? this show will probably always be developing in some way—there’s many conversations being had and research still underway that continues to inspire content. However, at this moment we have a slick 45-minute production that can play in any space from conventional theatre stages to coffee shops to living rooms;
So, UK TOUR? I would love to put together a UK tour together and invite speakers in to talk after the show with a moderator to host a live (and possibly live-streamed) Q&A.
JOIN THE CONVERSATION by linking up with #GingerPrivilege on FACEBOOK and feel free to engage at whatever level you feel comfortable!

Marketing/Audience Demographic
“Privilege” is an incredibly topical subject at the moment. The target audience is 14+ and aims to pull in both theatre/non-theatre goers; Bay and Claire aim to do this by producing the show in conventional/non-conventional spaces as well as tailoring the show accordingly when performed in different settings such as Schools, Corporate Spaces, Summer Festivals and more; They are open to including you in this tailoring process so that the show may be most effective for your audience!
